PLYMOUTH - Indiana State Police and the Plymouth Police Department responded to a shooting Monday night at the KMart in Plymouth, IN. Police arrived on the scene at 6:30 p.m. According to police, two officers were involved in the shooting-- one from Indiana State Police in Bremen and the other from the Plymouth Police Department. A male suspect was shot by police and airlifted to the hospital, his condition is unknown. Police say this all stems from a domestic incident the suspect had with a woman a couple days ago. A Marshall County deputy notified other police departments to be on the lookout for the suspect. An officer from the Indiana State Police Bremen Post quickly located him in a white van; the suspect then pulled into the Kmart parking lot. Police say they believed the suspect was armed so the trooper waited for another officer from Plymouth to arrive. Both officers went up to the suspects van and an argument started. Police say the suspect raised a gun at police so shots were then fired. Investigators cant say how many times or where the suspect was shot. Its also unknown if both officers fired and how many total shots-- police only know it was more than one. Investigators say the suspect did not fire his gun. Police say the suspect has had run ins with the law before so officers knew who he was. Sgt. Trent Smith of the Indiana State Police responded to questions on the protocol for officers who shoot a suspect and he said : It really depends on the department. It depends on the officers. It depends on the investigation. Theres a lot of stress that goes on with something like this. Most people dont realize the protocol as far as interviewing the officers that were involved. They do an immediate safety interview within a few minutes after the shooting. The names of the officers wont be released for at least two days. Police are also not giving the name of the man who was shot. Stay with WSBT 22 for updates on this developing story. wsbt/news/local/shots-fired-at-plymouth-kmart-monday-afternoon/30448152
