PNP HONORS UN PEACEKEEPERS FROM LIBERIA The Philippine National Police will honor the twenty four (24) PNP personnel who served in the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) tomorrow (December 2) after their 21-day quarantine period in Caballo Island. In honor to their sacrifice and courage in their missions, PNP personnel who have served in UN peacekeeping operations in Ebola-stricken Liberia will be awarded letters of commendation, UN Service Medal and Glock 9mm Pistol to be witnessed by their families and other police officers. The first batch of the 133 peacekeepers from the PNP, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) arrived last November 12 from the said mission were immediately brought to Caballo Island for three-week quarantine. Meanwhile, PSSupt Cesar Hawthorne Binag, UNMIL Deputy Commissioner and 4 others are expected to arrive today at 10:30PM via Emirates Airlines (Dubai to Manila). They will immediately undergo quarantine procedure at AFP Medical Center for 21 days. “Since 1992, the PNP has been sending its peacekeeping contingents to UN peacekeeping operations and missions, first in Cambodia and subsequently in other countries torn by conflict to provide services and assistance,” said Chief PIO, PCSupt Wilben Mayor.
