POINTS TO PONDER Wrestling, Watching, Praying and Praising A Study on the Book of Habakkuk (cont.) From time to time, the nations of the world criticize a particular country for committing crimes against humanity or otherwise violating internationally accepted standards of conduct (Take, for example the current situations in Russia and Syria). However, this court of world opinion is insignificant in comparison to the court where God judges. All nations will ultimately stand before Him. According to the Book of Habakkuk, ancient Babylon will not fare well. The Lord gave His prophet a taunting riddle, or song, against the Babylonians (Habakkuk 2:6). The song contains five stanzas, each of which begins with the condemnation Woe. These judgments are worth paying attention to, because we can expect God to judge other nations (and their institutions and citizens) according to similar standards. For the next week or so we will take a closer look at verses 6-20 from chapter 2 of this prophetic, important Book of the Bible. The diatribe against the Babylonians served as the basis for the denunciation described in these verses. Starting tomorrow; Five Crimes of the Evil City. Until then, have a safe and blessed day everyone. Resource used for todays comments provided by The Word in Life Study Bible
