POLICY RESEARCHER VACANCY IN CAPE TOWN: Habitat for Humanity South Africa Vacancy: Policy Researcher Reimbursement package offered: Negotiable and subject to experience Term: Full Time One Year Contract Purpose of the Role: Habitat SA is looking to appoint a self-motivated and organised candidate with a background in urban and regional planning, housing studies, development studies, geography, economics, social sciences, public administration, project management or other related fields. The policy researcher will report to the Advocacy Manager. He/she will be responsible to support the Advocacy Manager in researching, designing, implementing and monitoring the impact of Habitat SA’s advocacy programmes. Core responsibilities The Policy Researcher will be responsible for the following key performance indicators (KPIs) • Produce research papers, policy position papers and other knowledge outputs according to Habitat SA’s advocacy focus areas • Support the Advocacy Manager in developing impactful advocacy campaigns, networking opportunities, and other capacity building initiatives • Develop a programmatic approach to campaign planning and roll-out, project management controls and ensure financial control and cost-effectiveness of advocacy and campaign activities • Maintain Habitat SA’s good standing with industry partners, volunteers, government departments and other key stakeholders. • Identify coalitions and networks with external organisations and represent • Be a focal person for collaborative research projects with other institutions Personal attributes: • Minimum of three years relevant work experience • Bachelor/post-graduate degree in the fields of urban and regional planning, housing studies, development studies, geography, economics, social sciences, public administration, project management or other related fields • Dynamic, well-organised and confident in interacting with government, business and NGOs on key urban development and community development issues • Excellent writing skills, and the ability to manage and produce research reports/briefs • Research skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, and data collection and analysis. • Ability to interact with a vast array of stakeholders, including community leaders, CORC social and technical coordinators, government officials • Experience in project management and monitoring and evaluation is advantageous • Keen analytical ability • Meticulous attention to detail • Ability to organise and manage projects with minimal supervision This position will suit an ambitious and committed policy researcher, who works well in a team environment, is target driven and hard working. Candidates must be able to reside and work legally in South Africa and be based in Cape Town. HFH does not contribute towards relocation costs. Remuneration is commensurate with experience and skills.
