Goals in each half to Chris Kartambis and Pablo Cardozo now puts Belmore two points behind fifth-placed Uni and Condors inside the final fortnight of competition. Belmore United coach Nick Kambounias has taken over the reins of a very busy George Lazarou and is delighted with the side’s late progress. “It’s a very good team with a lot of experienced players and I’ve really tried to take the pressure off them,” he said. “Everyone is working for each other now and the spirit in the team is fantastic. The goals will come, but it’s more important that we’re playing well.” “We really just want to finish the season strongly, but we all feel we can get there [the finals]. We still have to play the last 19 minutes of our game against Hurstville FC and hope to get the three points [Belmore was leading 2-1 when the lights went out], which will make things a lot more interesting in the final rounds.
