PR Is Politically Rational; Lets Take The Moral High Ground. When YB RSN Rayer (DAP - Seri Delima) directed his Celaka remarks to UMNO, there was certainty that it will further complicate the already tense political situation, and it has. The situation spiraled to its lowest depth on May 21st when a group of Pemuda UMNO leaders stormed the Penang DUN and in doing so, brought disrespect to the hallowed ground that is suppose to be a place for constructive debate and reason. For YB Rayer, he regretted uttering Celaka UMNO and iterated that he should have said Damn instead. For us in PAS Youth, either words or other crude references for that matter offer no help whatsoever to PR politics and would only come as a distraction. Arguing that UMNO-BN has thrown even worse derogatory remarks towards PR leaders should never become a reason for us to be involved in political tit-for-tat. Wasnt it Gandhi who said an eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind? Seriously, people no longer care about the public issue first brought by YB Rayer as the focus now is on the YB himself. Is this effective politics? This is in no way to deny that UMNO-BN are treacherous in their dispense of the Rakyat mandate where in Penang particularly their failures are already well documented. As a matter of fact, throughout our public engagement, the people themselves have used bastardizing words describing PRs political nemesis that are in many ways more disrespectful than what have been uttered by YB Rayer. But thats the thing about this whole affair; the public has already made their own damning judgement against UMNO-BN that it is no longer necessary for us to utter the obvious. In a situation where the political stakes are consistently rising and emotions run high, should PR leaders be involved in similar mudslinging or that we strive to put ourselves on a higher moral ground? What is truly needed is to continue our political outreach, expressing PR new political model in firm but courteous manner so that the idea of change can be reinforced, moderated and accepted by the masses. Minimize unwarranted rhetoric and let rational and reason shape the debate. The Prophet Muhammad (saw) showed mankind the effectiveness of fusing moral expectation with reason and rationale throughout his life of outreach. During the famous incident of Taif where his message of change was met with abuses and stones, the prophet remained poise. Even when the angels offered to throw the mountains onto the people of Taif as a punishment for their rudeness and arrogance, the prophet forgave them and instead offered his prayers that the Taif people will one day open their hearts to the message of God. And indeed, they have. There are choices to be made as PR seeks to build a new and better Malaysia for everyone. But lets made it firm and clear that rudeness and arrogance is not part of PRs political dictionary and they will never be. Keadaan memuncak apabila segerombolan Pemuda UMNO menyerbu DUN Pulau Pinang pada 21 Mei yang lalu sebagai tanda protes sekaligus mencemar tanda kedulian demokrasi rakyat. Bagi YB Rayer, beliau kesal mengungkapkan perkataan Celaka dan sebaliknya sekadar menggunakan perkataan damn sahaja. Bagi kita Pemuda PAS, apa sahaja perkataan yang buruk tidak wajar digunakan dan cuma akan mengalih perhatian rakyat dari memberi fokus kepada agenda Pakatan Rakyat. Perbuatan UMNO-BN yang melemparkan kata-kata yang lebih kesat kepada para pimpinan PR tidak seharusnya menjadi rasional untuk kita menghalalkan perbuatan yang sama. Bukankah Gandhi telah berkata an eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind? Apakah tidak jelas kebijakan Gandhi apabila rakyat pada hari ini tidak tahu pun apa isu yang dibangkitkan oleh YB Rayer pada awalnya dan sebaliknya menjadikan keperibadian YB Rayer sendiri sebagai tumpuan. Apakah ini politik yang efektif? Bukanlah bermakna kita kendur dari memperkatakan pengkhianatan UMNO-BN khususnya di Pulau Pinang di mana kegagalan mereka telah pun nyata. Malah di dalam urusan kita dengan masyarakat, kita mendengar dari rakyat sendiri yang melemparkan kata-kata kesat ke atas UMNO-BN di atas pengkhianatan mereka itu. Sebahagian dari kata-kata tersebut lebih teruk dari apa yang diungkapkan oleh YB Rayer. Namun itulah hakikatnya mengenai keseluruhan isu ini. Rakyat telah pun membuat penghakiman jelas terhadap UMNO-BN sehinggakan tidak menjadi keperluan bagi kita untuk mengungkapkan kata-kata nista yang sama. Di dalam situasi di mana taruhan politik sentiasa meningkat dan emosi sentiasa tinggi, apakah perlu pimpinan PR terlibat sama membaling lumpur ataupun kita gigih meletakkan diri kita di atas landasan moral yang lebih tinggi? Nabi Muhammad (saw) telah menunjukkan kepada manusia keberkesanan mengadunkan ketinggian moral dengan rasional dan hujah sepanjang jalan dakwah baginda. Ketika insiden Taif sebagai contohnya, mesej perubahan baginda dibalas penduduk Taif dengan cercaan dan lontaran batu namun baginda (saw) tetap tenang. Di dalam kesedihan baginda itu, para malaikat menawarkan untuk menghempapkan gunung ke atas penduduk Taif sebagai balasan di atas kekasaran mereka namun baginda menolak tawaran tersebut. Malah Nabi Muhammad (saw) memaafkan mereka dan tetap mendoakan agar penduduk Taif satu hari nanti menerima Islam. Dan itulah yang terjadi ketika peristiwa pembukaan kota Mekah. Pakatan Rakyat kelak perlu membuat pilihan yang sukar untuk kita membina Malaysia baru yang lebih baik. Tetapi biarlah kita tegas di dalam memilih cara berpolitik dengan sahsiah yang tinggi dan menolak kata-kata kesat dan angkuh dari kamus kosa kata politik kita.
