PRAYER BEFORE MEALS Whether at a hurried breakfast at home, sitting at a lunch counter, or before a banquet, many make it a practice to pause a moment and ask God’s blessing. Countless millions over the earth say this age-old prayer: “Bless us, O Lord, and these Thy gifts which we are about to receive from Thy bounty, through Christ Our Lord, Amen.” A prayer such as this is a simple, forceful reminder that the all-powerful Creator is the Author of all that we are, and the loving Provider of every mouthful of food we eat. This brief prayer, said three times a day, will not only keep us aware of the Divine Presence, but will prompt us to share the peace and joy of Christ with the world as far as we can reach. It will help us to lift our minds and hearts above the distractions and temptations of daily life and keep them focused on the reason for our existence. My mouth will speak the praise of the Lord,and all flesh will bless His holy name forever and ever (Psalm 145:21) Keep us ever conscious of Your abiding presence, O Lord....Amen!
