PRESS RELEASE: ANPs senior leaders held an informal consultative meeting in Wali Bagh, Charsadda today. Senator Haj Muhammad Adeel, Transitional Central President of ANP, presided over the meeting. Apart from the office bearers of the organizing committees, prominent leaders of the party and elected members of the provincial and national assemblies and senate participated in the meeting. The meeting reposed full and unwavering confidence in the leadership of Asfandyar Wali Khan. There was a consensus among the speakers that by achieving identity for Pashtuns and gaining considerable quantity of provincial autonomy for the province through the 18th constitutional amendment, Asfandyar Wali Khan has fulfilled the dreams of Bacha Khan and Wali Khan. The meeting resolved to foil the attempts aimed at damaging the unity of the party. The party members are united in their determination to keep the party united. The meeting also reviewed the ongoing membership drive and expressed satisfaction over the transparent and democratic nature of the process. The meeting appealed to the activists and people in general to redouble their efforts for recruiting new members with a special emphasis on attracting the youth into the party. Addressing the meeting, Asfandyar Wali Khan told ANP leaders that with the advent of 2014, our region is bound to see significant political changes. The broad contours of the new political allignment have started appearing. An initial deal between Iran and six other powers has already been reached. A Loya Jirga in Afghanistan has taken important decisions about the future of Afghanistan. The new government in Pakistan is bound to take critical decisions for establishing peace because people are eagerly awaiting for the fulfilment of promises made with them during the elections. The ANP leader expressed concern about the lack of clarity in the government policy towards terrorism, extremism and NATO supplies. Asfandyar Wali Khan asked the government to explain as to what were they up to in regard to NATO supplies? We all know that NATO supply starts from Karachi port and goes through Sindh and Punjab to reach Pakhtunkhwa. But isnt it very strange that political leaders from Punjab, instead of blocking roads in Sindh and Punjab, come to Peshawar and incite people to take law into their own hands. Why dont they block roads in Punjab and Sindh? Asfandyar Wali Khan asked the provincial government of Khyber Pukhtunkhwa as to why the province lagging behind in giving a time table for the Local Bodies Elections inspite of the fact that it was the first province where the previous provincial assembly had passed a local government law. Now with a huge army of ministers, advisers and special assistants, that is a huge burden on the provincial exchequer, the provincial government has completely failed to deliver on every front. But the most important thing is that the activities of the security institutions providing security to the people lack political ownership from the ruling parties. This situation is leading to massive demoralization among the ranks of the security forces, particularly the provincial police force. This is a dangerous development that has to be immediately arrested and reversed. Asfandyar Wali Khan demanded that elections for Local Government should be held in FATA on a priority basis because if this process in the entire country and FATA is left out of it, the Pashtuns of FATA would justifiably feel alienated and deprived. The ANP leader also expressed concern about the abduction of a senior party leader Arbab Zahir Kasi in Balochistan. He asked the government to take steps to recover him as soon as possible and also demanded the adoption of effective policies to restore law and order in Balochistan.
