PRESS RELEASE Date: 07/12/2014 FWBPD Case# 14-001962 Subject: Vehicle Pursuit On 07/12/14 at 0116 hours, Officers observed a vehicle driving recklessly near the intersection of Perry Avenue and Third Street. Officers located the vehicle off the roadway near an apartment building on Elm Ave. As K9 handler Cpl. Pettis approached the vehicle on foot, the vehicle appeared to be empty. Before reaching the vehicle, the driver, later identified as Joshua David West, sat up and started to drive toward Cpl. Pettis. Cpl. Pettis quickly maneuvered to the side to avoid being struck. Officer Chisholm arrived on scene as West was fleeing from Cpl. Pettis. Officer Chisholm pursued West. When West approached the intersection of Brooks Street and Bay Drive, West put his truck in reverse and rammed Officer Chisholm’s vehicle. West then continued to flee. While traversing the surrounding residential neighborhoods, West drove to the dead end of Bay Drive. West again backed into Officer Chisholm’s patrol car. West then got stuck in a drainage ditch. West still continued to attempt to drive away while officers were ordering him out of the vehicle. West was taken into custody without incident or injury. During a search of the vehicle, marijuana, prescription pills, were located in the vehicle and arrested on numerous charges with Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, Aggravated Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer, Aggravated Fleeing and attempting to Elude Law Enforcement just to name a few. West was transported and released to the Okaloosa County Jail.
