PRESS RELEASE January 16, 2015 City students amuse Tarlaqueños in Street Dance Competition By Jason E. Mamawal TARLAC CITY (CIO) – Students from the different elementary and high schools here amused Tarlaqueños as they showed their moves and routines in the 2015 Melting Pot Festival Street Dancing Competition held at the Ninoy Aquino Plazuela on January 17. To show their support, Vice Mayor Ma. Antonette I. Belmonte, City Councilors Diosdado Briones (Event Chairman), Frank Dayao, Christopher Delos Reyes and Emily Ladera-Facunla witnessed the routines of the students. Being the lone participant for the Elementary Level, Matatalaib Elementary School automatically got the 1st place and won a trophy and a cash prize of P10,000 while for the High School level, Sto. Cristo Integrated High School grabbed the 1st place and Matatalaib Buno High School placed 2nd and also received trophies and cash prizes of P10,000 and P7,000, respectively. Participants were evaluated by a panel of judges composed of Tarlac State University Professor Marcelino Balanquit who is also the Director of the Presidential Commission on Culture and Arts (PCCA); Professor Joseph Melegrito, dance coordinator of the PCCA; and locally renowned event’s organizer Hector Uy. To harmonize the performances, organizers told participants that they should portray any theme or concept relevant to Melting Pot, that their team should have 30 to 50 members enrolled in the participating schools, that their dance steps and choreography should be progressive all throughout the routine while stunts and other exhibitions such as lifting and throwing were prohibited, violating the rule will mean automatic deduction of three points from their scores, and props and musical materials must be related to the theme. Criteria for judging were Performance, 30%; Choreography, 25%; Relevance, 15%; and Costume and Props, 20%.
