PRESS RELEASE Presently, the NCT of Delhi is divided into 5 traffic ranges, which are further bifurcated into 10 districts and 43 traffic circles for traffic management purposes. However, it was observed that some traffic circles were not having continuous boundaries and the Traffic Inspectors could not cover the opposite points of the circles to monitor the traffic situation and exercise proper supervision. Thus far off areas were neglected. Resultantly, it was also difficult to ensure and check the presence of traffic staff. There was need to constantly focus on areas where the incidence of repeated fatal accidents is high and work out remedial measures. There was also need to logically deploy staff in the identified vulnerable areas, brief them regularly on remedial measures to be introduced including targeting over-speeding vehicles and carrying out vehicle specific & offence specific enforcement activities to achieve desired reduction in fatal accidents. However, the present jurisdiction of some circles was extremely large and it was practically not possible for the Traffic Inspector to cover all the vulnerable areas. Considering the above issues and in the interest of effective traffic management, better regulation of traffic and reduction in fatal accidents, one new Traffic District i.e. Outer District and 10 new Circles i) Alipur ii) Mangolpuri iii) Nangloi iv) Janakpuri v) Tuglaq Road vi) Barakhamba Road vii) Sangam Vihar viii) Sukhdev Vihar ix) Saket and x) Mandawali have been created from amongst the available 10 districts and 43 circles. Necessary notification has been issued and adequate staff has been posted in the newly created Traffic Circles which have started functioning with immediate effect.
