(correspondent Fang Shubo) 24th January 2014 The Office of the Opposition is very concerned with recent information received concerning the sale of Vanuatu visas online by Vanuatus diplomatic mission in Beijing. The Office has been advised that people making application for such visas through this site are referred directly to Yao an expatriate Chinese whose activities concerning the government have been revealed to the media with great concern by the Office of the Opposition. The advertisement does not advise how much is being paid for the visas and it is believed that the email address is not even a proper email for Vanuatus diplomatic missions. The Opposition also wonders as to the proof of funds which at 50,000 rmb as cited is about USD8,500 or Vt 850,000 is being cited as proof of payment capacity. This website has just been set up in January 14th, 2014 and we wonder whether the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is aware of this and that it may be an attempt to compete with the Governments highly successful Hong Kong PR Program or is it another one of those money making exercises for certain politicians at the cost of the integrity of the Nation and its Foreign Service. During last year, the Opposition revealed to the public the existence of a website in China that was selling Vanuatu diplomatic passports and citizenship which had as an example, the passport of the Prime Minister - Moana Carcasses Kalosil. Despite the proof supplied, denials were issued by the Government and its Foreign Ministry claiming that these were false. Later in the year, evidence alluding to sales of diplomatic passports were again released which implicated Deputy Prime Minister Natapei and members of Vanuatus Foreign Service. Again these allegations were denied despite the supply of evidence including emails, photographs and a video. Again a video clip was released of the Prime Minister Moana Carcasses Kalosil meeting with former President of Georgia - Shakasvili who it is understood has been cited in the International Court of the Hague for genocide and crimes against humanity. The Office of the Opposition would like to ask the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to take whatever steps necessary to clean up the Nations Foreign Service by getting rid of problem individuals who seem to have no concern for the credibility and integrity of Vanuatu and its hardworking Foreign Services. The Office of the Opposition wonders whether, Vanuatu does not have a qualified person to take the place of Yao who has been appointed to Beijing. The Opposition is aware that Yao does not hold any qualifications whatsoever to qualify him for his appointment in Beijing other than being a supporter of certain politicians whilst we have many well educated and university qualified Ni-Vanuatu trying very hard to find jobs worthy of their qualifications. The Opposition Office has been advised that Yao is wanted by the authorities in China for certain crimes and the only reason he has been able to go back to China is as a Vanuatu citizen under a Vanuatu Government diplomatic passport. The Opposition Office would like to categorically state that Vanuatus Foreign Service is not a commercial enterprise and should not be treated as a safe haven for foreign criminals and would like to state that if the government changes, a review will be conducted on the activities of certain citizens to establish whether their citizenship was properly granted or whether that right to hold a Vanuatu passport has been grossly abused.
