PROF. WOLE SHOYINKA: A CASE OF DPS... Prof. Wole Shoyinka is one man I respect and he is widely acknowledged as a man of wit, intelligence, and an enviable reputation, but my respect for him evaporated with his needless outburst and harsh criticism and comparison of Late Gen. Sani Abacha with the Boko Haram. We all have our reservations about Late Gen. Sani Abacha, but that doesnt mean he didnt merit such honour. I am no hired PR agent for the Abacha family, but I wont allow such affront on my sovereignty and past leader by a man who lack the moral standing to do such go unchallenged. Late Gen. Sani Abacha was the head of government that built the largest housing estate and scheme in Nigeria. A model which if it had been sustained, it would have drastically reduced the 17million housing deficit we have as a nation. This is no other than Gwarimpa Estate Abuja. The scheme was meant to be replicated across the federation. It was only during the regime of Late Gen. Sani Abacha that as a business man or organization, you can plan and truly execute your budget with full compliance. The exchange rate was stable, the pump price of petroleum products were stable and available. He was also the one that increased the derivation formula for oil producing states under the aegis of OMPADEC to 8% from 3%. Above all; he kept a One Nigeria... He preserved it...that is one thing any personnel of the Armed Forces and any Patriot will appreciate. You may be wondering what is DPS?... DPS is my creation and it simply means Delusional Personality Syndrome This is a psychological disorder or imbalance in which the patient has a false, larger or bloated impression about his/her personality due to the gravitation of public sentiments and prominent personality towards him/her in acknowledgment of his/her cerebral capabilities and popularity. This makes the patient exhibit intellectual haughtiness, disregard to societal values, undermines the importance and functions of constituted authority(ies), and sees him/herself and his/her views as the only true definition of idealism, morality, and intelligence You may all be wondering how and why I stated Prof. Wole Shoyinka lacks the moral justification to criticize Late Gen. Sani Abacha? Simple!! This is one man that his only incursion into public office ended in disaster. The Federal Road Safety Commission was a lofty idea of Gen. Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida(Rtd). It was a government agency established not only to promote safety and such values in all road users(both pedestrian and motorist) through advocacy, but also to empower and engage Nigerians without any form of discrimination. I know a lot of Nigerians will shy away from this, some might call for compelling evidence but it is a well known fact...and for the purpose of playing safe... It is alleged that Prof. Wole Shoyinka turned the FRSC into an extension of the National Association of Seadogs...A.K.A The Pyrate Confraternity and he created a deck at the FRSC...safe to say he saw to the fraternization of the FRSC... It was also alleged that what he achieved through this was a creation of an order where only former seadogs attains high position in the agency. Is this not corruption and nepotism if hes truly guilty?... Is he not as guilty as Late Gen. Sani Abacha? We all know what our higher institutions of learning have become due to the activities of various fraternity... Many may be quick to defend him that during his days, there was no violence; I will tell them to tell that to the marines.. There was violence... They had their fair share of violence their time could contain... They promoted violence and handed it down.. I took a cursory look at Prof. Wole shoyinkas view and views in recent times, and I humbly submit he is suffering from DPS... Delusional Personality Syndrome... I rest my case...
