PSA: Cross-strait oversight and free economic pilot zone legislation scheduled for next week! (permalink: https://facebook/sunflowermovement/posts/383050838486744) KMT legislators have reignited the debate over the cross-strait negotiations oversight mechanism, one of the key demands of the Sunflower Movement which as yet have not been met, scheduling a debate over the legislation on the legislative floor as early as Friday, with a review of the legislation scheduled for next Monday and chaired by Wu Yu-sheng (吳育昇). For those unfamiliar with Wu, he is one of the targets singled out by the Appendectomy Project, an ongoing project seeking to recall unfit legislators (see our previous coverage, https://facebook/sunflowermovement/posts/328824070576088 and https://facebook/sunflowermovement/posts/335068026618359). Moreover, legislation regarding free economic pilot zones (FEPZs; 自由經濟示範區, or 自經區) is also set for debate alongside the oversight legislation. The FEPZs, which will fundamentally absolve any government oversight in designated zones, has been widely criticized as catering toward big business and corporate interests while also allowing greater influence from China to seep in.
