PSYDOORS 2014 - Psychedelic Indoor Gathering: Based in London, Al and Richie Psymmetrix have been deeply immersed in the global music scene for well over the past decade as DJs, producers, label owners & party promoters. Firmly established in the psychedelic underground they have amassed an impressive back catalogue of releases and an ever growing list of past performances, having released over 35 tracks across 8 different labels & played at major events in UK, across Europe, Asia, South Africa, Australia and the Americas. Richie Asimilon Elmes got his first computer at the age of 12; within a year hed started to make music by sampling LFO by LFO (with an amazing 1 bit depth!), things improved for Richie when he got an Amiga, and by the age of 21 he was DJing at squat and outdoor parties in Kent, playing psy-trance on vinyl and DAT. He became a regular face behind the decks in and around Canterbury in the late 90s and also started collecting studio equipment and made his first forays into psychedelic trance production around this time. Meanwhile Al Dirty Saffi Crowther was discovering electronic music in Australia after going there aged 19, he soon travelled to Goa which was at the time one of the main centres of psy-trance, within a couple of years he had bought his first laptop, and was starting to work with making electronic music, at school Al had been a drummer in several secondary school bands and he took this knowledge and love of beats with him into making trance. In 2004 Richie and Al lived in a large and infamous squat in the Kentish countryside, they were both at the time heavily involved with the Liquid Connective group that made outdoor parties in the south of England. It was around this time that they started to make music together, although both guys are very accomplished DJs it was for both of them always the excitement of making music that drove them. Psymmetrixs early music was heavily influenced by Digital Talk, Tristan, CCL and the Twisted, T.I.P. and Doof record labels. Their first gig happened at New Year 04/05, it was well received and a few weeks later in Goa they wrote their breakthrough track, the underground classic Crack Pipes and Bongs. The gigs quickly became international with dancefloors getting blasted with Psymmetrix style trance in Russia, France, Holland, Germany and the USA. Their first release was Chez La Pharmacien on Phar Psyde Recs in June 2006. The releases started to fly out with tracks released on Wildthings, Doof, Peak, Hadra and Free Radical Recs. In November 2007 they unleashed their first album Twin Headed Monster, this album was a year in the making and during this time they had set up their own label Bom Shanka Music, this was started as a result of the desire to release what they thought is the cream of the new generation of psy-trance artists. With the Twin Headed Monster album, Al and Richie wanted to show what they were capable of, as an album it is purely Psymmetrix with no remixes or collaborations on it, the album was very well received in the trance community and after this had been made Al and Richie put more time in their solo projects, the next couple of years were spent gigging and making music for there 3 live sets, also around this time they formed the A.R.T. Conspiracy with Tron from Spun Recs. Their second album had been talked about for almost as long as as the first, Psymmetrix always knew that it was going to be a versus album, and in the winter of 2008 they started to compile a list of producers that they wanted to work with, it reads as a whos who of psy-trance with tracks from Parasense, Tron, Ajja, REV, Illegal Machines to name a few, it was released after months of work in July 2009; if the first album showed people what they can do the second album really cemented their place in the psy-trance scene, the tracks on the album became been firm favourites for DJs throughout the world over the next 12 months, the album was called Psymmetrix and Other Animals as a reference to the fact that every track was written with another producer or a remix by or of Psymmetrix. This album was the 5th album on Bom Shanka Music, it marked a slight change for the Bom Shanka crew as this CD firmly established not just Psymmetrix but also Bom Shanka Music as ones of the best of the next generation psy-trance labels. In summer 2010 Al and Richie released an album on Bom Shanka that was a triple E.P. with tracks from Asimilon, Dirty Saffi and Synthetik Chaos, then later in the year they finally had enough tracks to get together a killer new live set with their label mate Illegal Machines called Big Scary Monsters and over the course of the next year they released tracks under all of their respective project names, Al also released an E.P. of his progressive music under the name of Project Sketch on Arkona Creation. December 2011 saw the release of Psymmetrixs 3rd album and Bom Shankas 10th release No more milking it; they wanted to show on this CD that they are capable of many different styles and wanted to make a groundbreaking album that is showcasing not just psy-trance but the full menagerie of music that they make; all the tracks are totaly original, with no remixes; the album is fully mixed so that although DJs will love it, it can be listened to from start to finish as one seamless electronic journey. In the future there will be EPs of Asimilon and Dirty Saffi and also from Big Scary Monsters, in the mean time you can probably find Psymmetrix on the dancefloor or behind the decks at many high quality events all over the world!
