Informed sources told The Hindu that the lonely militant, who left three constables of Special Operations Group of Srinagar District Police injured in a grenade attack, succeeded in escaping from the house cordoned by Police and paramilitary forces in the wee hours on Thursday. SSP Srinagar Syed Ashiq Hussain Bukhari confirmed: “It’s true that the holed up militant escaped from the cordoned house at 3.45 a.m. He jumped out of the hideout and our men fired upon him but he escaped. We are not sure whether he got hit or not but he is now untraced. We have called off this operation”. Mr Bukhari refuted reports of the eight Policemen being injured but confirmed that two men of his force had sustained injuries. Sources said that the heavily armed militant had taken shelter inside a structure which had only Pashmeena yarn looms and no residential area. A residential house was close to the premises but all the inmates had been successfully evacuated by police. Keywords: Kashmir conflict, Srinagar terrorist attack, cross-border terrorism, Ahmad Nagar
