Panchos house is a traditional (?) Mexican house thats kind of in a square,with a courtyard inside. The first photo is of what suffices for a water heater. Its up on top of the building, so the sun heats the water therein. Thats used for showers. Theres one water spigot---thats the entire water supply for the whole place. A hose attached to that spigot runs to the container up on top of the building, and also fills barrels in the courtyard area. Maria uses the water from those barrels for cooking, cleaning, etc. The next 3 pictures are of the original kitchen. There is a room inside the house which has a modern day electric stove and even a microwave, but Maria does most of the cooking in the exterior kitchen (or she did when I was there.) She cooks beans in a big pot over a wood fire, and washes dishes in the stone basin. They have a washing machine, but they are so tight with water that Maria will put a load of clothes in the washer, stop it before it drains, take the one load out, put another in and run that in the soapy water---so shell wash 2 or 3 loads with the same soapy water, then empty the wash water, fill it with rinse water, and rinse the clothes the same way.
