Parenting is like being a famous artist. Chances are you wont know if you were successful at it until your dead... Reese got a Toys R Us gift card for her birthday a few weeks ago. She wanted to finally buy a toy today. I asked her to wait a few days because buying toys for the boys was not in the budget this week and you know they would want one. She said she HAD to have a toy today. I reminded her of every time I bought her something when we went shopping with Jacks gift cards. She wasnt having it. I told the boys beforehand that they wouldnt be getting a toy. Reese shopped around and got something, but the boys were sad. I realize that the boys shouldnt have been upset, it wasnt their present. But kids are kids. Now she has her toy, but shes playing by herself. I explained to her that sometimes you have to put others feelings before your own. I also explained to the boys that everyone wont always get the same thing at the same time. Waiting a few days would have been a small price to pay in exchange for some eager playmates. They are all playing now, of course, but I think she will remember to be mindful of others. Jack, on the other hand, wouldnt give a damn who was sad......
