Part 3. Islam and Terrorism In the theme of fairness and letting Muslim scholars speak for themselves, Ill post this video of a sermon given in a Bay Area mosque during their Friday prayers. I do this instead of us non-Muslims telling Muslims what their faith says. Or as Jesus puts it . . . trying to treat others like we want to be treated. Hamza Yusuf is a highly respected leader who co-founded the only Islamic university in America. He speaks internationally. I have heard him at UC Davis. You can use the contents guide below it if you don’t have time for his whole talk. He is one of the most influential islamic scholars in the Western world. He is talking to Muslims here. Not trying to impress non-Muslims. When listening to any speaker, this phrase helps me: Open the windows to enjoy the fresh air but keep the screens intact. A loose paraphrase of 1 Thessalonians 5:2. We can “rejoice with the truth” when we see it. Many things caught in our window screen will be simply because we don’t understand or comprehend Arabic. But at least I think you can catch the spirit of his talk if this issue is of importance to you. It may help us all gain a little more clarity in today’s world. Some definitions of Arabic words are below. One highlight for me was his lament and prayer at around 36 minutes. Contents of video. (Below are a few definitions of important Arabic terms.)
