Part 47 – First day of the week So Jesus was crucified on a Thursday, and was in the sepulcher on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The corpse of Jesus was discovered missing on early Monday morning, which is called the first day of the week in Matthew 28:1, Mark 16:2, Luke 24:1, and John 20:1. To help us determine the kind of calendar that the followers of Jesus used, we check John 20:1 and John 20:19. John 20:1 states: “The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulcher, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulcher.” John 20:19 states: “Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.” When did Jesus visit them? In the evening of the first day of the week. What kind of calendar were the followers of Jesus using: the Jewish lunisolar calendar where the day starts at sunset or the Julian solar calendar where the day starts past midnight? It was the Julian solar calendar. If it was the Jewish lunisolar calendar, it would have been the second day of the week, isn’t it?
