Part XVIII: Before a moment had moved the needle, Caleb found himself in a veritable fisticuffs simulacrum. Although he had never so much as reared back his arm with the intent of throwing a punch, Caleb found himself under the power of the adrenaline pumping throughout his body. He would never deny that every time in the past, he would have quickly chosen the flight response and been done with it. This time was different. They had messed with his baby! “What a fool,” Alistair spoke over the private intercom system to Frasier. “The stupid old man just waltzed right past us and never even saw a thing. We have to figure he is going to see his daughter, if he hasn’t already, and get on his high horse and come in here looking for us.” “So we better be ready,” Frasier finished Alistair’s sentence. “Do you want me to guard the entrance?” “No! Just listen to me. I need your help to secure the Queen and make sure we don’t fall short. We have already gotten this far.” After saying this, Alistair motioned for Frasier to follow him. He had picked up a stride in his step that was significantly more directed than it had been before. Frasier followed on his heels, ready to do as he was ordered. Alistair took a deep breath and entered the small area where one of the hives was located. Trying to remove a Queen from her workers was no easy task and required the utmost composure, even though they were both wearing protective suits. To be continued…
