Part-time Assistant Terra Sage: Center for Environmental Connections is launching a new Web site designed to educate, inspire, provide research, and connect schools and the public to environmental topics and resources. Currently, we are seeking a part-time assistant as either a paid employee or a student who could present this position to their professor in return for credits. What we will be doing: * Reading, selecting and posting graduate research papers into 30 of our environment-related categories, which include: biodiversity, agriculture, climate change, conservation, energy, consumerism, natural resources, ecology, green living, public health, sustainability, and many more. * Writing articles and blogging on the site about environmental topics * Research for a book about food and the environment * Providing updates on the Facebook page * Attending environmental events (sometimes using “go pro” equipment) * Contacting universities to gather information on their sustainable practices, solicit graduate research papers, and invite professors/students to write their own blog on our site * Searching the internet for site related materials * Making short videos to post on our You Tube channel and Web site * Sharing stories, photos, and videos submitted from visitors about personal environmental experiences * Posting environmental events happening around the country * Maintaining the Web site and updating Search Engine Optimization (SEO) words Desired Qualifications (the more you have the better): * Great writing and editing skills * Research experience (for writing articles, fact-checking research papers, and finding Web site content) * Ability and confidence to communicate and develop relationships with new contributors, university professors and students, and visitors to the site * Knowledge of environmental studies or related fields * Willingness to go to environmental events in the NY-CT region * An undergraduate degree or in the senior year of pursuing one * Experience with social media (Facebook, YouTube...) * A good attention span to complete tasks and for details a must! Bonus Skills: * Photo/video editing experience * Design, HTML, or CSS experience * Web site community development * SEO development To start, position will be approximately 10-14 hours per week (over 2 days) at $10-12/hr, depending upon experience and availability; unless you choose to get credits for your time. We are located in Mahopac, NY, but occasionally we will work on location or you may be able to work a few of the hours from home once we build a good working rapport.
