Partridges & Salmon. What have they in common? I cut my teeth - TopicsExpress

Partridges & Salmon. What have they in common? I cut my teeth on a wild partridge shoot many moons ago, this was well after the glory days when 1000 brace days might not have been the norm but they happened every year. In the 80s numbers crashed through agricultural management but with micro management & a good boss wild partridge shooting can be had. Demand is still high though and releasing redlegs filled the gap. The salmon problem is different in so many ways, we have some of the most pristine waters on earth producing fry-smolts every year but returns are crashing. Problems at sea wether fish farms, predators, nets or climate change have reduced returning fish. There is one simple solution to help our fish out and that is releasing captive bred smolts. Forget the scientists and biologists that are only looking after their jobs. Indeed get some off the rivers as soon as possible and listen to the folk on the ground. Just as agriculture has killed off the partridge whatever is happening at sea we cant stop in the short term.
