Passive ribbon microphone (an early birthday present from Ma. Thanks Ma! ). The design of this beast is seriously old school (and I do mean old school- like 1930s - 40s old school). I thought Id take it for an inaugural spin by recording some quick 12 string acoustic guitar - an instrument that can sound pingy and brittle with the average modern condenser mic. Ah, but au contraire; with this can it sounds pretty darn smoooove right out of the stable - and with no equalization or compression whatsoever. Also with the figure 8 polar pattern (both sides of the microphone pick up sound) it gets a lot of natural room ambience - hey Ma look, no digital reverb!
