**Patchy rain on the way for most south eastern/eastern Australia** Written 8:30pm EST Sunday July 13h 2014. A massive cloud band thanks to a mid level and upper trough trough that was fed in from the Indian ocean past couple of days has created huge totals on parts of the Kimberley coast and some good rainfall in southern parts of the Northern territory and some thunderstorm activity in parts of the Northern territory this evening! In around the Alice Springs region this same cloud has dumped some good rainfall around 20mm & should bring some patchy rain areas across parts of South Australia with general falls of 1 to 5mm tomorrow mostly inland areas mostly north west and north east Pastoral districts. Victoria will see sporadic light rain with the best of the falls falling on the north east ranges with falls to 20mm possible mostly on Tuesday while northern Tasmania will see isolated showers. A surface trough will come up behind the mid/upper trough causing some lift some parts of NSW especially on and just west of the ranges should see the best of the falls with 5 to 20mm possible through Tuesday and into early Wednesday. Some showers activity will also be on and near the coast thanks to onshore airstream and following the rain through the north east ranges of Victoria and southern ranges of NSW. Queensland will also see the impact of this cloud band and trough but mostly favour southern areas with 1 to 5mm possible but through the Maranoa and Warrego district falls may increase to 5 to 10mm with slightly more uplift. Isolated thunderstorms are also possible near and along parts of the NSW ranges extending as far north into southern Qld. Some of this rain will fall as snow across the Vic and NSW resorts thanks to cold uppers with snow falling down to as low as 1300 metres. The good thing about this cloud band and moisture is even though it will keep the maximum temperatures down it will act as a blanket at night reducing the frost risk Monday and Tuesday nights through much of eastern Australia retaining heat from the day meaning the nights wont be as cold. This system will move to the eastern seaboard during Wednesday as a couple of strong cold fronts move towards south eastern Australia.. More info on this tomorrow.
