Patricia, BREAKING: Elizabeth Warren went to the floor of the Senate and took our side after the Washington Post editorial board attacked the PCCC yesterday for our bold progressive leadership in the fight to expand Social Security. She said: Just this morning, the Washington Post ran an editorial mocking the idea of a looming retirement crisis...we should be talking about expanding Social Security benefits -- not cutting them. This is what it looks like when progressives go on offense! Watch Elizabeth Warren rebut the Washington Post and discuss expanding Social Security benefits! Then, sign the card thanking her for being our bold progressive hero. WATCH: Elizabeth Warren on EXPANDING Social Security Yesterday morning, the Post attacked bold progressives for leading this Social Security fight and trying to redefine liberalism for the 21st century. (That is indeed what were doing. As is Elizabeth Warren.) The Post argued, The rich have finite resources...why spend this gob of revenue on the elderly? (Simply ridiculous.) Over the past 6 months, we worked with allies to build a coalition, organize local events, run polls, and get new members of the House and Senate on board. Elizabeth Warren is the latest! Sign the card thanking Elizabeth Warren for standing up for all of us. Thanks for being a bold progressive. -- Adam Green, PCCC co-founder P.S. Here is an excerpt from yesterdays Washington Post editorial: In recent days, those styling themselves “bold progressives” have been rallying support for a bill sponsored by Sen. Tom Harkin (Iowa)...that would increase Social Security benefits. The proposal would change Social Security benefit formulas to produce an average increase of $60 per month, plus a more generous annual inflation adjustment...To pay for this, the bill would subject all wage and salary income to [the current] Social Security payroll tax, as opposed to only drawing from income up to $113,700...For someone earning $1million, the tax increase would be $58,700. Yet even the rich have finite resources...Why spend this gob of revenue on the elderly, who are already heavily protected by the federal government? Sign the card thanking Elizabeth Warren for standing up to the Washington Post and being a bold progressive hero.
