The New England Patriots have been rock-solid on the road in December with a 24-5 SU record over their last 29 December road games dating back to 2002. New England hopes to continue that trend on the road this Sunday night against the San Diego Chargers. New England is a 3.5-point favorite according to sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark. The Patriots’ excellent play on both sides of the ball and history of December dominance make New England a solid play in this one at -3.5. OddsShark Computer Prediction: New England 36.1, San Diego 26.8. In what many were calling a potential preview of this year’s Super Bowl, the Green Bay Packers defeated New England 26-21 in Green Bay. Even with the loss, the Patriots are still 7-1 SU and 6-2 ATS over their last eight games, averaging 37.3 points per game on offense over that stretch. New England is 10-3 SU in its last 13 games against San Diego with an 8-4 ATS record in the last 12 lined games in this head-to-head series. San Diego hosts New England at 8:30pm ET on Sunday night at Qualcomm Stadium. The Chargers entered their bye in an 0-3 SU slump, but have emerged out of it with a 3-0 SU win streak. After failing to cover the spread in each of its last six games, San Diego finally did so last Sunday with a 34-33 outright upset against the Baltimore Ravens as a 6.5-point road underdog. It was an important game for the offense which had failed to crack 30 points over its previous five games. San Diego is 9-5 SU and 10-4 ATS in its last nine games as a home underdog. Sunday night’s total is set at 50.5. The UNDER is 3-1 in San Diego’s last four games as a home underdog and 3-1 in its last four games against New England according to the OddsShark NFL Database. Before losing to Green Bay, New England’s previous four games were wins by 22 points or more. The Patriots may not win that handily this Sunday, but they should be able to win by enough to cover this 3.5-point spread.
