Paul Paraka to contest buai ban policy #PARAKA_FIGHTS_BUAI_BAN Source: PNG Loop Nov 8, 2014 Prominent lawyer Paul Paraka says he will challenge the policy in regards to sale of betel nut on the streets of Port Moresby city. Betel nut is not the only issue Paraka is looking to champion. Paraka visited some settlements in the city and has offered to help the communities to stop any attempts by the government or companies from removing them. This week he visited the Ranuguri settlement at Konedobu where he spoke about his law firm and how he has help train many young people become good lawyers in Papua New Guinea. He told people that banning the sale of betel nut is not the answer. Paraka says many people depend on the income of betel nut for their daily living. The principal of Paul Paraka Lawyers says he decided to take on the issue of buai ban to court after the death of a betel nut vendor at Hohola bus stop recently. He says for settlements he will fight to have the government give land titles to people who already have houses built there. Paraka also told the gathering at Konedobu that they can also take PNG Power Limited and Eda Ranu to court for not providing water and electricity services into settlement areas.
