Paul Tells Timothy, To Stir Up The Gift Of God Which Is In You, Keep on stirring it! Keep Fanning The Flame. And Do Not Quench The Spirit. 2 Peter 3:1 This is now the second letter that I am writing to you, beloved. In both of them I am stirring up your sincere mind by way of reminder, We have to stir ourselves to rekindle our love for God and the brethren and serve them in humility and kindness...This will tend to produce a more seasoned, mature first love, which is exactly what God wants. We will be able to pursue godliness with the zeal of youth and the wisdom of maturity... Whoever has no rule over his own spirit is like a city broken down, without walls. Such a person is defenseless against destructive forces that pressure him to submit...To do the right requires discipline, the self-control to act in agreement with truth, because virtually everything in life including Satan, the worlds enticements, and our appetites works against our fervent submission to God. Thus, Paul charges us to exercise the control to stir up the gift. 2 Timothy 1:6-7 For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. The gift was the power and authority to fulfill the responsibility within it. The principles in it involve everyone who has the Spirit of God...Each has been given gifts by God to carry out his portion of Gods work within the body...No matter how scattered it is, or how unified it is, God has given each Christian the power to carry out his function within the body. “For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” 1 Thessalonians 5:19 Do not quench the Spirit. Gods Holy Spirit imparts to us His love, giving us the power to obey His laws in their full spiritual intent...The repentant sinner is then a changed person his whole outlook and purpose is changed as he is led by the Spirit. 2 Timothy 1:7 For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, 1 Timothy 4:14 Do not neglect the gift you have, which was given you by prophecy when the council of elders laid their hands on you. Maintaining a sound mind requires constant work, a positive approach, and an acceptance of both the good and the bad. It needs continual stirring, we have to guard it and exercise it at all times. God is a very positive God, who looks forward to the future and the promises of having us as a key part of His creation. Receiving the Holy Spirit does not instantaneously make one courageous and full of love. One has to grow in these qualities by yielding to God and using His Spirit. 1 Peter 4:10-11 As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of Gods varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
