Paul Watson mit Locky MacLean THE WAY (with Martin Sheen and Emilio Estevez) I have left Los Angeles for parts unknown. This last week has been an whirlwind visit to my old hometown and the people I have been reunited with and the new people I have met have been wonderful. A really big thank-you to Martin and Janet Sheen for hosting me as their house-guest this past week. I met up with quite a few very inspiring people during my week in Los Angeles. Over the next week I will post a few commentaries on each of them. But first I would like to start with the Sheens. I had the unique opportunity to watch Emilio Estevezs wonderful film ,The Way, starring Martin Sheen while sitting beside Martin and Janet Sheen in their living room. The film is not just a great story, its down right inspiring, and so much so that I intend to walk the Camino de Santiago to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia, Spain once I am able to travel to Europe again. If you have not seen this film, I strongly recommend that you do. It is kind of a retelling of the Wizard of Oz and the best word I can use to describe it is: inspiring. And the next morning I had the amazing opportunity to discuss the film over breakfast with Emilio Estevez himself. And he gave me two bottles of wine from his Casa Dumetz vineyard. He also gave me a couple of copies of The Way that I have sent on to the crews of the ships for them to see when they put to sea. One of the things that makes Martin Sheen such an inspiring man is the fact that he is a true practicing Catholic who actually lives the true message of his church. He stands up for what he believes in with his efforts to promote peace and to help the unfortunate. Within the space of the last two weeks he has flown to Winnipeg to attend the Me Into We conference that supports children in the world struggling to escape slavery and then on to London, Ontario for another talk, again on behalf of people in need of support. Having dinner with Martin and Janet is a treat. The two of them are still so much in love after half a century of being together. Martin kept us laughing all evening and when we went out for dinner the next day he warmly greeted everyone who approached him. I think he is the most humble actor Ive ever had the privilege of knowing. Martin and Janet have been friends of mine and supporters of Sea Shepherd for over 25 years. It was great to see them both again after being at sea for the last 15 month
