Pauls language of people whove hurt him getting repaid for what - TopicsExpress

Pauls language of people whove hurt him getting repaid for what theyve done in 2 Thessalonians 1, on the one hand troubles me. It seems hes developing a theology based on a need for vengeance which seems to miss the mark of Jesus teachings. It sounds similar to the logic that later ends up proposing those not like us whom we dislike are bound to hell and not worth compassion. Yet there is a need for a sense of Gods justice, a sense that we are remembered in how we contribute to the good and held accountable for how we inflict pain on others. There is a sense in which belief in divine justice, karma, etc, can free us to compassion if we focus on judging only our own hearts and leave God alone to judge others. How do you work out those concepts found here in your spirituality?
