Penang International Tamil Conference Nov 7,8,9 .2014 Recently I have participated as a delegate in the Penang International Tamil Conference which was held from 7th November till 9th November 2014 .(Note: I am writing this based on what I witnessed and experienced during the 3 days conference and it is my point of view only regarding the conference and nothing political) The conference was interesting and issues pertaining our Tamilars around the world was discussed. I was really attracted by the conference theme called search for identity and the pictures on the advertisement that consist of our Tamilar cultures, history and contributions in Malaysia. This persuade me to participate in the conference and I would like to thank the organizers for the invitation and good hospitalities that was provided during the conference . Delegates and paper presenters from Malaysia ,India,Sri Lanka ,Singapore Myanmar, Indonesia ,South Africa, Mauritius ,Re-Union Island, Australia, France and Britain have participated in this conference. I was able to learn a lot of things from this conference particularly about our Tamliars contributions at their respective country . I was impressed with the welcoming ceremony which was held at the waterfall, Thanneermalai Murugan temple ground with our Tamil traditional instrument -nadaswaram and thavil. The welcoming ceremony was opened for public at large thus gave an opportunity for the public to participate and gain a good knowledge about what is all about and of course the public was able to listen to the Welcoming speech by YB DCM II Prof Ramasamy and Guest of Honour Mr.Vaico fromTamil Nadu. I felt this is the right place to start the conference and the organizers did a wonderful job .I can notice a very good theme work among them and all of them are youths who are very energetic and co operative .All of them were in our Tamil traditional attire during the welcoming ceremony . . Various Tamil cultural event was shown such as bharatanatyam, stage drama about our tamilar history in south east Asia ,folk dances , and live traditional instrumental music. I really enjoyed all the shows especially the stage drama by Prai Tamil School students . It s a good start for the conference and I never seen a Tamil conference with such a grand cultural welcoming ceremony. Despite that another interesting part here was where a special Tamil song with a Official Anthem called தமிழே என் தாயே Thamizhe yen Thayee also was composed by our local youths specially for the conference and it was so heart melting.(https://facebook/video.php?v=831930123494660&set=vb.100000330395236&type=2&theater) During this three days ,the event was started by singing our Malaysia national anthem Negaraku, Pulau Pinang State anthem: Untuk Negeri Kita and and Tamil Thaai Vaalthu .It reflects the patriotism (semangat patrotik )of our Malaysians. The opening ceremony of the Penang International Tamil Conference was done by The Hon.CM of Penang State YAB. Lim Guan Eng on 8th November and the closing ceremony was done by the Malaysia opposition leader YB Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Various topics regarding Tamilars issues world wide was discussed during the three days conference by the paper presenters .I will write a separate review about each topic and the speeches by all the guest of honours . Despite that another interesting part in this conference was the resolution called The Penang Resolution which contains six elements about our Tamilars issues world wide.and there was committee was set up specially to follow up this resolutions.( will discussed in detail in another separate essay ). A very good explanation of an article about this conference was published in Makkal Osai news paper on 16.Nov.2014 Sunday..pg 12. I encourage that all our Indian Tamil makkals in Malaysia to read it. In nut shell I would say that Penang Tamil International conference was the best and effective conference that I participated.I would like to thank the organizers ,the Patron for the conference Hon.DCM.II.YB.Pof.Dr.Ramasamy ,the Chairman Mr.Munusamy and the Secretary Mr.Satees and all other committee members and volunteers for organizing such a meaningful and historical Tamil Conference and I hope that another conference specially for the Tamil youth will be organized in Penang ,as I suggested during the conference, so that what ever issues that was discussed can be follow up by the younger generations . I also was really impressed with the theme work by the youth group whom were the back bone of this conference Syabas to all of them. I can see a bright future for Penangites with a great administration of the current state government . I also urge and hope that all the basic needs of all Rakyat will be fulfilled and concerning about our Indian -Hindu issues I hope that state government will full fill the need of as proper cremation ash disposal and eema kiriya -ritual place with a proper building and facilities (which I also discussed with Prof Ramasamy during my visits to his office on April 2014).Its already 57 years of Merdeka and yet our Hindus in most of the state and district in Malaysia does not have a proper place with a proper building and facilities for the cremation ash disposal and eema kiriya ritual prayers . We keep on building temples but ignore or give less importance for the one of the basic need of our Hindus-The proper cremation ash disposal and eema kiriya centre . And although the state government giving financial aids for our Indian students ,I would like to suggest and urge the Penang Hindu Endowment Board and the water fall Thandayuthapani Temple committee to come up with a scholarship in the name of Lord Muruga called PENANG THNEERMALAIYAN SCHOLARSHIP on every year THAIPOOSAM DAY for the University students.This will give a good motivation and courage for our students to do more service for our community in future and I am sure that a scholarship in the name of Lord Muraga will make all of our makkals proud.Thank you.
