People in the west have a natural mental mechanism that tells them People who disagree with my interpretation of the available facts are irrational. We think that they know they are wrong, but just wont be honest about it. Mentally healthy people always make rational choices, from the perspective that they currently occupy. Once they express that opinion as their own, it becomes a little harder to admit they had incomplete information or that they were influenced by outside pressure. If you try to attack the rationality of their choice, they become defensive. What you have to do first is identify why they rationalized the choice in the first place, then you can understand how to have a discussion that still respects their inherent dignity and worth.
