People wringing their hands over the violent protests in #Ferguson.......and spouting off about how violence begets violence -- are you a hypocrite? The answer is YES if you have never lamented about the decades of daily, systemic VIOLENCE perpetrated against predominantly brown and black people in our nation. For example, have you uttered a word of protest over the industrial prison complex, which has been promoting a racially unjust social order for many, many years? Do you talk about or protest the stop-and-frisk laws that have targeted a mainly minority population? Did you wring your hands when you realized that a black person is killed every 28 hours by police/security/vigilantes? What about when the person who did the killing walked away, again and again and again, without suffering any consequences? Did you lament about the violence displayed by a militarized police force taking over a town, by the violation of human rights and the efforts to take away the peoples right to assemble? What about the use of tear-gas and the donning of full-on warfare gear by the police? And calling in the military? Did you protest or wring your hands over THAT violence? I wonder if you even notice that when predominantly white males violently riot & loot (i.e. after sports events, after Sandusky was arrested, etc.) our nation DOES NOT call for a state of emergency, does not send in the military and does not use tear-gas on those protesters? Make no mistake. Violence DOES beget violence. So, take a moment to study history and honestly look at the root of where the violence is coming from. You may be surprised to find that youre actually wringing your hands over your own support of (even if through your silence) ongoing and horrific violence in our society. If you dont understand why protests are turning violent in recent hours, and youve never actively done anything to counter any of the violent acts that I mentioned above, then you just dont get it. And you are a very large part of the problem.
