Perhaps all the blather about our shared history is having an effect. Perhaps a ragbag of developments - Provoism, revisionism, EU membership, mass immigration, postmodernism, the troika, whatever - has made the blue mailbag inevitable. ....Perhaps Ireland has finally become a non-place, a no-place, and its people are as shiftless and hopeless as the soon-to-be-forgotten Davis predicted. I hear tell that the Government is perplexed by the conundrum of how to go about commemorating the centenary, in 18 months, of our founding revolution. ....What we need to mark in 2016, therefore, is our near-perfect achievement of amnesia.....
