Perhaps whats on my mind is best left unsaid: I dont need anniversaries to remind me of what happened that day. I dont need a reminder to think about the thousands of people who were slaughtered: not a day goes by that I dont think about them. The events of 9/11 were captured in the tragic images of real life and the increments on the clock mark their significance: 8:46, 9:03, 9:38, 9:59, 10:02, 10:28. Lately my mind has returned to a singular event that occurred without planes, without massive explosions, without scores of people leaping out of windows, without the choking debris-caked crowds running for their lives, without any loss of life at all. It was another event at another time, but with a different kind of drama. At 5:20 (PM) on September 11, 2001 WTC Building 7 simply disappeared as if it had been nothing more than an apparition . . .
