Personal reflection: Am still flabbergasted after attending the "sentencing" of the driver who killed an injured man and severely injured two others while in the process of rendering him aid. And, am even more dumbfounded by a judicial system that allows and enables said driver to...Never give a straight answer (only conflicting ones)...Never offer an apology (directly or indirectly)...Never acknowledge personal responsibility (car malfunctioned)...Never even ask those in a position to know how those she injured were doing during the aftermath (especially after plea deal). Instead she did not contest charges, remained mute and accepted the slap on the wrist without so much as a humble or mumbled thank you. I have to commend the family who lost a son and the injured nurse for their mercy in extending forgiveness without being asked. And, my daughter in bravely stating the facts truthfully and without bitterness. A young man who will never walk this earth again, a traumatized nurse who is still in therapy and has since lost her job and, my daughter who will need further surgery in years to come deserved their day in court. And, although the outcome was more troubling than satisfying...I will trust in The Lord who always enables us to be victors and not victims of circumstances.
