Personnel from the DMTA office had the opportunity last week to tour Delawares Transportation Management Center (TMC) near Smyrna. This is an impressive, state-of-the-art facility. Here DelDOT technicians monitor road and traffic conditions around the clock. Traffic cameras and sensors built into roadways along with information from police and fire agencies enable workers to monitor traffic flow, slow-downs, and stoppages throughout the state. While this information is essential to emergency responders and other state officials it could also be useful for travelers on our states roadways. The good new is that this information is available to you or any one else traveling in or through Delaware, and it can be delivered to you right in the vehicle. It is also available to dispatchers and fleet managers through their computer screens or to anybody with internet access. The link to access real-time traveler information in Delaware is map.deldot.gov. For drivers, on the road information is available on the AM radio dial at 1380 kHz. Also, there are free Android apps and and iOS apps for tablets and smart phones. DMTA thanks Gene Donaldson, operations manager at the Transportation Management Center, and Greg Oliver, DelDOT assistant director of planning, for making it possible for us to visit the TMC. p.s. DMTA has a new email address. Reach us at [email protected]
