Peter Murphy was born on this date, in 1957. As the frontman for the gothic rock band, BAUHAUS, Murphy wormed his way into thousands of dark hearts with his Bowie-esque stage prowess and crooning. Darkly surreal lyrics that dredged up, often times, unsettling images were their songs. In addition to his early bands clawmarks on the history of dark rock music, he has gone on to release a number of haunting solo albums, the most popular (in my house) being Deep. He did an album with JAPAN bassist Mick Karn under the name DALIS CAR... Which is fantastic. Further tethers to the horror side of the fence would be the bands appearance, in song and video, in 1983s THE HUNGER. A less than stellar early 80s vampire movie notable mainly for starring David Bowie and the scene where Catherine Deneuve and Susan Sarandon getting naughty in the shower. Peter Murphy has reunited with his old band on a number of occasions as well as continued to record and tour as a solo act. That voice and the tone and mood of Bauhaus...that IS darkness.--John
