Phase 1C Fast Facts •Rea Vaya will be rolled out in the north east quadrant – from the inner city to Alexandra, Sandton, Randburg, Greenstone, Ivory Park, Rabie Ridge, Sandton, Randburg and Midrand •Services to be introduced in phases from 2016/17 which will comprise of a total of 86.9km network •17.2 km of median bus lanes (bi-directional) •45.5km of complementary and feeder routes (public transport priority where feasible and full NMT upgrade) •24.2km temporary complementary routes (no major construction as this will become trunk routes in future) •10 key median stations situated in the in the middle of the road and this is where passengers board and alight the bus •Total 242 buses - 45 articulated and 197 standard buses •3 Interchanges for public transport integration at Watt Street Alexandra, Sandton and Westgate •Part of Rea Vaya Phase 1C infrastructure will feature 30,5km of extensive walking and cycling paths in Alex, improved sidewalks along Louis Botha and dedicated cycle and walking path from Alexandra to Sandton with iconic bridge •Park and Ride facilities into Sandton CBD to reduce the traffic congestion •A new integrated transport plan that fuses Rea Vaya BRT, Metrobus and mini bus taxis transit networks to make it easier for commuters to access the public transport system •Two new depots will be built in Alexendra and Ivory Park for Phase 1C •An estimated 5 700 jobs will be created during the construction phase and for every one job created in construction, another two are created in the cement, iron, steel industry etc. •There will be about 500 permanent jobs in bus operating company- some of these jobs will replace jobs in taxi industry •About 1000 jobs will be created at stations and interchanges for ambassadors, marshals, cashiers, cleaning and security •The estimated cost for Phase 1C is R3bn all inclusive
