(Phew! My assignment was difficult!) The Crash (for BISFA) My creative license opens windows, floats word jumbles as high as the sky, and permits driving under the influence of art while my lead foot leads to a car accident smashing creativity into the blank page. The air bags deploy so I puncture them with pencils and gel pens, scribbling words of SOS and the story I’ve been rewriting for the past 5 months. The movies paint it all wrong: the crash is loud -- deafening -- but the after is so silent. There is freedom in this quiet, safety in the dance between the here and there. My ideas wear fancy hats, dodge drug tests and regulations, and assert themselves with sparkly pencils that shun such clichés as “liberty and justice for all.” We make our freedom with words, brainstorm the future without the aid of iPads or technology -- we create with minds and eyes and calloused fingers holding tight to inspiration.
