Photographed and collected just before dusk, I only had a quick glance at this tree on the limestone plateau above Nhagutua Gorge in Cheringoma, Mozambique. Both specimens and photographs got tucked away and buried under piles of other stuff from the same expedition and various other trips. This morning, while working on the completely different and rather frustrating job of restoring everything on a new computer after the old one crashed and died of old age last week, these images reappeared. It immediately was clear that my original thought it was some Rubiaceae was way off the mark. No matter how long you do this, it still happens sometimes :-) Instead it is an Wild Olive (Olea europaea subsp. cuspidata and interesting enough since we did not have any records or images for that species on the Mozambique Flora.
