Photos of ongoing Save Parasuram Kund, Say No To Lohit Dam signature campaign from Kakopathar, Tinsukia district. Activists of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) began a signature campaign in Tinsukia district against the proposed mega dam on the Lohit river in Arunachal Pradesh from 13th of January 2015. The construction of 1750 MW Demwe Lower mega hydroelectric project poses a serious threat to the existence of Parasuram Kund, an important cultural heritage site in Arunachal Pradesh. Every year on the occasion of Makar Sankranti in the month of January, people from across the country come for pilgrimage to Parasuram Kund and take a dip in the river Lohit which they consider very sacred. The Save Parasuram Kund, Say No To Lohit Dam campaign, which aims to gather 5000 signature from local people and devotees visiting Parasuram Kund will continue till 20th of this month. These signatures will be sent to the President and Prime Minister of India along with a memorandum voicing opposition against the mega project.
