Picked up this precious gem while preparing for Sundays sermon: “It is futile for the best and wisest people to think that by their ingenuity, influence, or industriousness, or even by their innocence and integrity, they escape the hatred of evildoers or protect themselves from the strife of tongues (Ps. 31:20)” (The New Matthew Henry Commentary, Martin H.
