Please Be Wise A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions. The fool goes blindly on and suffers the consequences. Proverbs 27:12 (NLT) Foolish people. “The simple pass on, and are punished.” Three things are said in our verse about foolish people. First, they are plural. In the Hebrew “prudent” is in the singular and “simple” is in the plural. That is the way it is in life. There are always more foolish people than wise people. Second, they pass. They pass right by all the warnings of evil. They are heedless of any warning of evil. They stick their head in the sands of self-will and mock any opposition to their evil pursuits. Third, they are punished. Because they pay no attention to the warnings of evil, they are punished for evil. Unrepentant evil results in judgment. The worst punishment from judgment is eternity in hell. Those who have been heedless of the warnings about sin will end up in hell and will be “punished” there for eternity. As surely as I live, says the Sovereign LORD, I take no pleasure in the death of wicked people. I only want them to turn from their wicked ways so they can live. Turn! Turn from your wickedness, O people of Israel! Why should you die? Ezekiel 33:11 (NLT) Desire of God. “I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live.” God is not cruel because He sends sinners to hell. His desire is that the wicked repent of their sin. It does not delight God to send people to hell, but He has to do this when people reject Him and cling to their sins. God has gone to great effort to keep people out of hell. He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die for man’s sins so they could be saved from eternal judgment. But when man refuses to turn to the Lord, God has no choice but to send that person to hell. “I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life. John 5:24 (NLT) Prerequisite of salvation. “That heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me.” If a person is going to get saved, there are two things he must do. First he must listen to God. If you do not listen to what God says about your soul, you will never get saved. Second, he must believe on God. Salvation is through faith. It is a result of believing what God has said about His Son Jesus Christ. In our day, unbelief is honored by mankind. But God only honors faith. He condemns unbelief. If you persist in your unbelief, you will be condemned to eternity in hell fire. Believing is just not knowing the facts—believing is DOING what the facts says to do!
