Life after your child is diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes is NEVER the same, no matter how hard you try ... All the times that your child now is just acting like a kid is NEVER the same ... THAT MOMENT when you see your child playing with their friends and you look away for a moment and look back and they are laying on the ground and everything goes to slow motion because you dont know if its THAT MOMENT you need to grab the glucagon when they were only playing freeze tag... or THAT MOMENT when your child is walking around wobbly and dizzy and you dont know if its THAT MOMENT that they are crashing from a low but what they were really doing right before was spinning and laughing to make themselves dizzy... THAT MOMENT when you are driving in the car and you notice your child falling asleep in the back no longer means that they are tired and bored in a car ride ... THAT MOMENT when they are laying on the couch and fall asleep no longer means they may just be tired from a long day at school ..... THAT MOMENT when the smiles are gone because your child sees other kids eating and doing whatever they want whenever they want but what they need to do now needs to be timed properly and finger stick and tested to see if their blood glucose will allow them at the same time to enjoy and do what everyone else is doing and injected with insulin before they can think about eating or drinking and playing .... THAT MOMENT when you kiss your child goodnight and tuck them in and you tell them you love them while in your mind your are TERRIFIED of what the night could possibly bring ....THAT MOMENT when you realize the same medication you are giving your child to survive has the same ability to take their life ... the THAT MOMENT goes on and on ... but someday may have the ability to change ...
