(Please no copy , only share) STAFF-SHORTAGE HITS EDUCATION IN RAJOURI SCHOOLS 1370 posts vacant; far flung areas worst affected ADMINISTRATIVE APATHY SUMIT BHARGAV Rajouri, Apr 26: The state government’s claims about fast-track recruitment to vacant posts notwithstanding, education of children studying in government run schools of this border district is turning out to be the worst sufferer on account of acute shortage of teaching staff in the district. Extent of administrative apathy could well be gauged from the fact that more than 1300 posts of teachers in the district are lying vacant, with the shortage hitting schools located in far-off villages, the most. As per sources within the education department, the shortage of government teachers in Rajouri district has swollen during last few months with promotion of several teachers to the master-grade level. They said that the number of vacant posts of teachers in this border district has risen to 1370 “and most of these posts are lying vacant in the schools located in the far flung villages of district especially in Kotranka - Budhal, Khwas, Kalakote and Moghla education zones”. Sources further claimed that the shortage of teachers has worsened after a recent selection list of government teachers was quashed by the high court. “Teachers in the notification have already joined their duties in other districts of state while the fate of selection list of Rajouri district is still hanging in air”, they said and claimed that clearing of the selection list could have helped in improving the situation to a great extent. When contacted Chief Education Officer Rajouri Choudhary Lal Hussain admitted that about 1370 posts of government teachers are lying vacant in the district “which has resulted is shortage of teaching staff in the government-run schools”. “Our department is hopeful that the shortage will be met out soon”, he said
