Please place Susan Garner on your DO NOT ADOPT list! This persons name has been sent around a few times as one not to give animals to. Below is an article from 2005, the Tulsa World, copied onto this e-mail for those of you who cant open up the attachements. The only thing missing is a short note beside a photo of a kitten who had been saved who had been brought to the pound by this person who calls herself a rescuer. I was told that if we are in contact with anyone looking to place animals to tell them that Susan Garner, (who also goes under the name of Brookes or Brooks), is receiving our e-mails. A woman looking to place some kittens was warned and did not give them to her when she called. People need to know she is receiving our e-mails. For those of you who dont know her history please read and make sure, please, that you get the word out. The article speaks for itself. Thank You. Saturday, January 22, 2005 ● tulsaworld Cat owner backs claims about rescue group b A Tulsan says he paid $40 for his cats to go to good homes, but instead they went to a Broken Arrow shelter. BY ROD WALTON World Staff Writer BROKEN ARROW — A Tulsa pet owner on Friday backed up police claims that a Broken Arrow catrescue operator allegedly charged people for taking in their felines — promising to find them good homes — and then sent those animals to a city shelter instead. “My wife was just shattered,” James Wilkerson said about getting the call that their cats were at the shelter. “For one thing, we were out $40, but we also wanted to find them good homes.” Broken Arrow police and animalcontrol officials said Thursday that Susan Garner, the owner-operator of SG Alley Cats, had sent 16 cats to the shelter in the past few months. Shelter employees who called the phone numbers of some of the cats’ tags later said they learned that owners had no idea that their former pets were being sent there, reports show. One of the cats was euthanized, and three others had been scheduled to be put down Thursday. Shelter officials delayed those euthanizations and found homes for two of the cats Friday. The last female cat, a manx, was still available for adoption, a shelter employee said. Wilkerson was one of those owners who was surprised to find their cats at the shelter on Jan. 13, reports show. Having given them up to Garner because of sudden cat allergies, Wilkerson said, he was asked for a $40 donation and assured of the animals’ safety. “Absolutely, we were interested in finding a good place for them,” he said. “She told me that she would find homes for them and that she did this all the time.” Garner told the Tulsa World that SG Alley Cats is a nonprofit organization that has been in business since December. On Nov. 14 and 21, she ran ads in the Tulsa World’s classified section seeking cats for a $10 take-in fee. She also initially denied allegations that the cats she sent to the shelter SEE CATS A-15 BA cat rescuer’s practices questioned b The woman is accused of charging a fee to find homes for the pets and then taking them to a shelter. BY ROD WALTON World Staff Writer BROKEN ARROW — Authorities are questioning whether a Broken Arrow cat rescue operator told pet owners she would take in their animals and find them good homes — at a fee — and then sent 16 cats to a city shelter. The woman said Thursday that she never promised owners anything or let the city take that many cats from her. Susan Garner had animal control officials pick up the cats in December and this month, shelter officials said. Two previous owners who gave cats to Garner later told city officers that they had no idea their cats would end up at the shelter. “They didn’t think they would be taken here,” animal shelter employee Louise Dicky said. “They (thought the cats) would be safe.” Those owners — who were called because their numbers were on the cats’ tags — picked up their pets from the shelter. Another cat was handed back to the veterinarian who had given it to Garner, authorities said. One of the 16 cats was euthanized because it was already sick, and three others had been scheduled for euthanization Thursday. SEE CAT A-15
