Please read and post me your comments. :) Let Rest In Peace rest in peace: Lets do away from habit of copying the things blindly. It is very common for Indians to write R.I.P. or Rest In Peace on any persons death. Without knowing reasons we keep using the words/ statements which do not have any correlation with our believes. Unlike in Islam or Christianity in Hinduism its believed the soul goes to heaven instantly. In case of the former the soul rests until the judgment day - when its decided whether it gets heaven or hell. So as per Hindu belief the soul does not have to rest in a grave which is where the phrase comes from The other point is as Islam and Christianity do not believe in rebirth while Hindus do. However even in Hinduism there is a belief that eventually its possible to achieve #nirvana when the soul can get out of the cycle of rebirth. However we generally do not consider that event to be something where the soul have come to rest. Instead Hindus believe that in the event of achieving nirvana the aAthmA merge with Ishwara and becomes divine. hariH om
