Please read the post for the question....(Its not my view but randomize views of the readers for the question..... Is Darjeeling a part of greater nepal? Do the people in darjeeling want to be part of nepal today? 1. Before I go any further: No, DARJEELING IS NOT THE PART OF GREATER NEPAL. States like- Keella, Kangada, Sikkim, Darjeeling etc. were handed to India many years ago. Although there was a British rule then in India, its still counted as India part even the British have now left. This treaty of handing over the states was done by Bhimsen Thapa as a way to stop British from conquering over Nepal. As a result those states now belong to India. Those people in Darjeeling do want a different country called Gurkhaland, but they dont want to join with Nepal. _______________________________________________________________________ 2. No, Darjeeling is an integral part of the Indian Subcontinent. It is very close to Nepal and 95% of people staying there are of Nepalese origin but they have been staying in Darjeeling for ages and are certainly Indian citizens. As for the later part of the question the reply is again No,the people of Darjeeling do not want to be a part of Nepal because they are 100% Indians like you and me and are very happy to be a part of India. But for thier ,Identity and self respect ,they are demanding a seperate state within the Indian land named Gorkhaland. They deserve it because the demand for this state is as long as hundred years . _______________________________________________________________________ 3. Yes, Darjeeling is a part of Greater Nepal. Nepal lost Darjeeling to The British Empire and strictly not to the Indian government over a hundred years ago with the signing of the Sugauli treaty in 1815. For more info; en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sugauli_Treaty .Demands of free state by the Indians, originally Nepalese, is reasonable for they are currently a part of West Bengal which does not in any way represent or respect their original identity. _______________________________________________________________________ 4.Being originally from nepal... on behalf of all nepalese currently living in darjeeling...i would like to say yes.. yes and only yes.... yes darjeeling used to be part of greater nepal according to treaty with british indian it was handed over to india at that time but people over there still want darjeeling to be part of nepal... india was suppose to handover darjeeling to nepal after completion of their treaty date but due to corrupted politician of nepal its still with indian... and hope fully in nepal future when our country will go stronger then indian we will go back to nepal as part of greater nepal... Sugauli treaty in 1815. For more info; en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sugauli_Tre... . and i would like to mention people in darjeeling want them to be part of nepal and they want it to be called gurkha land... gurkha resembles nepal _______________________________________________________________________ Please choose any of the four options if you agree or give your own comments for the same....
